Corporate Sponsor Spotlight: Q&A with our Sponsor Helmores Lawyers

What inspired your organisation to support Satisfy Food Rescue?

In an ideal world, charities like Satisfy Food Rescue wouldn’t need to exist. Unfortunately, our reality is far from perfect, and Satisfy plays a critical role in our community. Supporting this incredible charity allows us to give back in the most meaningful way—by helping to put food on tables for those who need it most.

We were particularly inspired by the passion, ambition, and professionalism of Satisfy’s leadership team. Their dedication and drive to make a difference in our region made the decision to partner with them an easy one.

How does this sponsorship align with your company’s mission and values?

Helmores Law has proudly served the North Canterbury community for 140 years, and giving back is deeply embedded in our values. Our lawyers are involved in many community initiatives, and we take our responsibility to support the region seriously.

As the leading law firm in North Canterbury, we believe it’s our duty to make a meaningful difference wherever we can. Supporting Satisfy aligns perfectly with our mission to contribute to the well-being of our community, particularly by addressing food insecurity.

Why do you feel food rescue and sustainability are important issues?

Food waste is a staggering problem. It’s disheartening to see perfectly good food end up in landfills when there are people in our community struggling to put meals on the table. Globally, the contrast is even more striking—countries with food abundance waste enormous amounts while others face starvation.

Locally, the issue is no less pressing. Many families in our own region are living in impoverished conditions. Satisfy addresses these dual challenges by reducing food waste and redistributing surplus food to those in need.

At Helmores Law, sustainability is something we care deeply about. Our team makes an effort to minimise waste, adopt sustainable practices, and reduce our environmental footprint. However, we recognise that we don’t have the expertise or capacity to make a significant impact on food rescue ourselves. Supporting Satisfy allows us to contribute to these critical efforts through their well-organised and impactful operations.

What message would you like to send to other organisations considering supporting food rescue efforts?

Without the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers, Satisfy couldn’t continue its incredible work. We believe businesses have a moral obligation to give back to the community that supports them.

Supporting organisations like Satisfy shouldn’t be viewed as just a marketing opportunity—it’s about making a tangible difference in people’s lives. We hope other businesses see the value in contributing to food rescue efforts, whether through funding, volunteering, or other means. If making a real impact in your community is important to your organisation, we strongly encourage you to support Satisfy Food Rescue in any way you can.
